These life-like statues are full of character, possessing the energy and playfulness of young elephants observed in the wild.
The man who captured their essence and recreated their features is self-taught Austrian artist, Gerhard Buckholz, who threw in the corporate towel in 2015 to dive into his passion full time.
Now based in the Greater Kruger Park, Gerhard is surrounded by the world that inspires his work. His ability to use wax clay to so accurately sculpt the essential movement, anatomical correctness, and personality of his animal subjects is astonishing, truly bringing the spirit of the wild to his art.
