Your Stay Saves. From the Bush to the Classroom. We Protect What Matters Most.

A family legacy, rooted in love for the bush and it’s community, dedicated to protecting Africa’s future.

Our Story

Serondella has always been more than a destination. For generations, our family has found belonging here in the wild, a place to reconnect, restore and celebrate Africa’s beauty.

The Serondella Foundation is our way of giving back and we invite every guest to be part of it. Just as this land has given so much to all who experience it, together we can help protect its future by safeguarding wildlife, uplifting the local community, and ensuring the Greater Kruger remains a place of wonder for generations to come.

Within the Thornybush Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger, conservation is a daily responsibility. Protecting rhinos and other endangered species is critical to the survival of this wilderness.

Our partnership with the Tango K9 Unit supports highly trained dogs and their dedicated handlers who work tirelessly to track poachers, detect snares, and safeguard the reserve. Guests have the unique opportunity to visit the K9 headquarters and training facility, where they can learn about the unit’s vital role in conservation. They may also join a live demonstration to witness these remarkable dogs in action, an unforgettable experience that highlights the courage, skill, and unwavering commitment behind anti-poaching efforts.

From the air, helicopter patrols offer a powerful and unforgettable perspective on conservation. Skimming low over the bushveld, rangers monitor vast, otherwise inaccessible areas — an essential tool in protecting rhinos and other endangered species across Thornybush and the Greater Kruger region.

The helicopter operation was founded by Serondella, born from the family’s belief that aerial conservation support would only have lasting impact if it was built on a sustainable business model. Today, the helicopter not only assists Thornybush Nature Reserve but is also deployed across the Greater Kruger, amplifying its reach and conservation impact.

As the flight rises from the tawny tones of the bushveld to the emerald folds of the Blyde River Canyon – the world’s second-largest green canyon – the journey reveals both the scale of the landscape and the importance of preserving it. For guests, it’s a rare front-row seat to conservation in action, and a breathtaking flight that captures the essence of what we strive to protect.

Education is one of the most lasting ways to create change. At Welverdiend Primary School, located just beyond the Thornybush boundary, elementary students are filled with ambition and pride but often lack the resources to support their studies.

For many, a proper school uniform provides more than just clothing; it offers dignity and a sense of belonging. Through our Sponsor-a-Child program, in partnership with the Imibala Foundation, we have pledged over 100 uniforms to kit out learners at the start of the 2026 school year.

We continue to expand our efforts to support more children by providing uniforms at a school in the local Welverdiend village, and we’re beginning collaborations with two additional schools to implement the same support for uniforms and other equipment for their students.

Our vision, however, extends far beyond the classroom wardrobe. In ongoing collaboration with the Imibala Foundation, we are launching new initiatives across several neighborhood schools to create an environment where children can truly thrive. This holistic approach includes:

Infrastructure & Facilities: Investing in essential school furniture, modern equipment, and the maintenance of school buildings to ensure a safe, functional place to learn.

Sports & Recreation: Recognizing that growth happens on the field too, we have provided sports gear and equipment to local soccer clubs to foster teamwork and health.

Arts & Culture: Supporting the creative spirit of the community through the donation of musical instruments and cultural resources.

This is just the beginning. Every guest at Serondella has the opportunity to help us extend this support, ensuring that the next generation has the tools, the space, and the spirit to reach their full potential.

Guest Legacy - Your Stay Creates Change

Every journey at Serondella has the power to leave something behind. Whether by sponsoring a learner, joining a patrol, or supporting our K9 partners, your stay becomes part of a much bigger story; one that ensures the Greater Kruger remains a place of life, opportunity, prosperity and possibility.

How You Can Be Part of It

A donation of $100, €85 or £75 provides a full school uniform and essential items for a student at Welverdiend School. Each sponsored child receives a complete set, including a school tracksuit, a pair of leather school shoes, a warm jersey, a rain jacket, socks, underwear, a t-shirt, and a durable school bag filled with basic stationery. This support not only equips children with what they need to attend school with confidence but also restores a sense of dignity and self-esteem, while easing the financial burden on their families. Once the students grow out of their issued attire, it is passed down to younger siblings within the family. The impact of this initiative reaches far beyond the classroom, helping children and their siblings feel proud, included, and motivated to learn.

Join Conservation in Action: witness the Tango K9 Unit in training or fly on a Rhino monitoring patrol accompanied by one of Thornybush Reserve team.
